A pathway of glowing lanterns brings warmth and intimacy to Zagreb’s historic city park, drawing on the character of its traditional lanterns and the geometry of the Zrinjevac Pavilion.

Overview
Advent Zrinjevac is a light installation created for Zagreb’s winter festival, forming a pathway of glowing lanterns that brings warmth and a sense of intimacy to the promenade. Inspired by the city’s historic lanterns and the distinctive octagonal form of the Zrinjevac Pavilion, the lanterns become part of the park by day and a gentle guide through it by night.

Brief
The brief was to make Advent Zrinjevac feel warmer and more inviting, while building on the visual identity we had previously created for the event. The identity uses a restrained palette of soft hues chosen to complement the park’s plane trees and surrounding 19th-century facades.

Approach
We introduced a series of glowing lanterns along the promenade, using forms and colors that sit naturally within the Zrinjevac landscape. During the day, their muted tones blend with the bark, leaves and architecture around them; after dark, they come to life as warm points of light that gently guide visitors through the park. Their design references Zagreb’s traditional city lanterns and the octagonal geometry of the Zrinjevac Pavilion, connecting the temporary installation to the character and history of its setting.
