Overview
The 61st Zagreb Salon of Applied Arts and Design brings together 168 works created over the past three years, exhibited across the historic Oktogon Gallery of the Museum of Modern Art. Jewellery, ceramics, sculpture, video, fashion, textiles, graphic and product design, and architecture come together under the theme of applied arts and design in dialogue with time.

Brief
The challenge was to bring together a wide range of disciplines and visual expressions within a space that already carries a strong visual identity of its own. The historic architecture of the former Bank offered a natural setting for the Salon’s central theme — a dialogue between past and present.

Approach
Time became the organising principle for both the visual identity and the exhibition design. Each of the 168 selected works was translated into a rectangle whose length corresponds to the period in which the work was created, forming a visual timeline of the exhibition. Where the medium allowed, these forms became dynamic, extending the idea of time into digital spaces.

The identity was then given a physical form through a central installation in the gallery. Each work occupies its own strip, creating a volume that reveals the scale and diversity of the Salon while functioning as a condensed version of the exhibition itself — an exhibition within the exhibition.
